far 只能用作形容词或副词比较级和最高级的前置修饰语：
- This film is far better than the book. 改编的电影比原著好多了。
- This is quite/(by) far the most expensive bicycle in the shop. 这是这家商店里相当贵/最贵的自行车。
- The police have responded far more quickly than usual. They are arriving as we speak. (Dan Brown, The Da Vinci Code) 警察比平常行动得快。我们在这里讲话的时候，他们就赶过来了。（《达·芬奇密码》） 而 by far 既可作形容词、副词比较级和最高级的前置修饰语，亦可作它们的后置修饰语：
