《英语正误辨析词典》(上海外语教育出版社,1995,p.288)提出了下面的正误句并进行了分析：
“我深深地后悔说了这些话。
× I deeply regret to have said these words.
√ I deeply regret having said these words.
[说明]表示“(为已做的某事而)懊悔,遗憾”应该用regret doing。regret后面也可跟动词不定式做宾语,但是意义不同,表示“(为将要做的事而)遗憾”。例如:I regret to inform you that your application has been unsuccessful. 我遗憾地通知你,你的申请没有成功。”
《朗文常用英语正误词典》(朗文出版公司、上海译文出版社,1994,p.276)也提出过类似的正误句：
“× He soon began to regret to have run away from home.
√ He soon began to regret having run away from home.
他不久就开始后悔从家里出走。”
请问 regret to have done 的用法真的是典型错误吗？
为了表示“对做过的事情感到后悔”这层意义，在英语里除了用regret doing或regret having done这两个格式之外，还可以使用regret to have done这个格式。这个格式虽然一般辞书中没有收入，但是我们在阅读中还是经常会遇到的。下面便是一些类例：
