在 an example 之后使用介词 to 比较常见,但不能认为使用 for 就是错误的。千万不要用这样的试题来考学生。请对比下面的实例：

严格地说,上句原文有错误。应在 example 之后加上个逗号:Information records,for example,of patients with the same illness... 因为 for example 用作插入语(是承上而来的)。不难看出,of patients...illness 是 Information records 的后置定语,被插入语 for example 分隔开了。

从功能上看, for example 用作插入语, 可以说明任何成分, 而 such as 只能引出同位语, 而且只能是名词性同位语。从语序上看, for example 可位于句首、句中或句末, 而 such as 只能位于它所引出的同位语之前。
