worth1

This book is worth reading.

  1. San Francisco is worth {frequentvisits.yourvisitingfrequently.\left\{\begin{array}{l} frequent visits. \\ your visiting frequently.\end{array}\right.

  2. The bicycle is not worth what you paid for it.

  3. Only one of these books is ____.

A. worth to read B. worth being read C. worth of reading D. worth reading(全国高考)

  1. What do you think of the book?

Oh, excellent. It's worth ____ a second time.

A. to read B. to be read C. reading D. being read(全国高考)

The watch isn't worth repairing. It isn't worth repairing the watch.

He's worth listening to.

He is worth repairing the car.

  1. She's not worth getting angry with. (PEU)

  2. You are not worth helping. (LDCE)

The car isn't worth repairing. worth

  1. It was worth at least fifty francs. (Bennet)

  2. They thought the book worth publication. (Davies)

  3. The bicycle is not worth what you paid for it. (CGEL)

If his object had been health for health's sake, the result would still have been well worth any sacrifices of momentary desire that it cost him; but he had a higher purpose.

  1. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

  2. His rise in status is well worth the loss of money.

  1. A war demands of us enormous sacrifices of life and property.

  2. You will gain nothing by the sacrifice of your principles.

It is worth discussing the question again. The question is worth discussing again。

  1. It is scarcely worth going home. (CGEL)

  2. It isn't worth waiting for him. (LDCE)

  3. It isn't worth repairing the car. (PEU)

  4. The fact remains that the food is in one place and the need for it in another, and it is worth risking any number of rebuffs to bring the two together.

In 1626 the island of Manhattan was bought from local Indians, Native Americans, for a handful of goods worth about $24.

  1. San Francisco is a city worth frequent visits.

  2. He is a stingy man not worth a cent.

worth being celebrated?

The day when Hong Kong returned to China is worth being celebrated.

上句中的 worth being celebrated 的用法是错误的,应改为 worth celebrating,因为在 sth. is worth doing 句型中,句子的主语(sth.)
