从书上的答案得知,应将 are(A) 改为 is。但是,我不明白,Fifteen minutes 为复数,为什么其谓语动词要用单数(is)呢?
这是个英语惯用法问题。在英语里，人们把表示时间、距离、金钱的名词短语看作一个整体（the period, the distance, the amount），因而要求谓语动词用单数（见 dollar, miles）。
To learn English, five years is not a long time. 为了学好英语，五年的时间并不太长。
Fifteen years represents a long period of his life. (CGEL) 在他的一生中, 十五年是一个很长的时期。

我在考试时选了 C(are)，但后来得知标准答案为 A(将 reflecting 改为 reflect)。我承认我没有理解透原文的结构(原题要求 reflect 作 the conveniences 的谓语)。但是我还是感到很冤屈:minutes are 是一个常考的错误搭配,为什么在这里就不是错误了呢?
表示时间的名词短语(ten days, five weeks, fifteen years, three minutes)常常被看作是一个时间单位或者一个时间段(a period of time)，因此要求其谓语使用单数：Ten years is a long time.（例句和试题，见上条和year）。但是，表示时间的名词短语有时候并不被看作是一个完整的、不可分割的时间段，而是被看成可分割的一段一段的时间，例如，上面试题中的minutes（一分一秒，分分秒秒）便具有此种可分离的含义。在这种情况下，表示时间的名词作主语时，就要求其谓语动词使用复数。请对照下面的托福题：
