want 后跟动词不定式, 表示“愿望, 希望”(wish, desire):

Somebody wants to see you, sir. (Priestley) 有人希望见你, 先生。

She doesn't want to be separated from this man. (Shaw) 她不愿与这个男人分开。
want 后跟动名词表示“需要”“要求”，而且动名词表示被动意义：

Your hair wants cutting. (ALD) (= to be cut) 你的头发需要剪了。

Your coat wants brushing. (Maugham) (= to be brushed) 你的外衣需要刷了。
