prefer ... rather than do/doing

原书 PDF 第 1190

prefer ... rather than do/doing1

“× I preferred to stay out in the cold rather than spending the night there.

I preferred to stay out in the cold rather than spend the night there.

prefer to do A (rather) than do B(在这个句型里,注意 rather than 之后要接不带 to 的动词不定式。)”

M. SwanPractical English Usage

I would prefer to spend the weekend at home rather than drive/driving all the way to your mother's.

  1. I would prefer to read a poorly-written book rather than read a poorly-written review of it.

  2. I would prefer to read a poorly-written book rather than reading a poorly-written review of it.

prefer ... rather than do/doing2

He prefers ____.

A. to write his letters rather than dictating them

B. to write his letters rather than dictate them

C. writing his letters rather than dictate them

D. writing his letters rather than have dictated them(全国英语专业四级,95-59)
