我看不出句(1)中的 any drink 和句(2)中的 any river 有什么错误。

从逻辑上来说，句(1)中的(than) any drink 和句(2)中的(than) any river in China 都有毛病，因为 any drink 也包括 Coca Cola, any river in China 也包括 the Changjiang River。这就犯了“部分和全体进行比较”的逻辑错误。因此，句(1)中 any drink 是错误的，故必须选 any other drink，句(2)的 any river 应改为 any other river。

Iron is more useful than any other metal. 铁比其他金属更有用。
Monday is busier than any other day in a week. 星期一要比其他日子忙一些。
That movie was more interesting than any other I have seen recently. 那个影片比我最近看过的其他片子有意思得多。

  [附注]把than any other (river)判为正确,而把than any river判为错误之类的试题虽然对于训练学生的逻辑思维能力有好处,但对于掌握丰富多彩的英语表达方法却是有害的。因为than any river的用法在英语原著中经常出现,就像汉语的“他比任何人贡献都大”经常出现一样:
  
  He has been able to tell us more about active volcanoes than any man alive. (NCE, 2, L.67) 他能告诉我们有关活火山的情况比任何在世的人都要多。
  
  因此,我们不得不同意1983年的Reader's Digest的说法:“在以上的结构中,如果你愿意,你可以很容易地把any改为any other,但是any的说法是古老的,已固定的标准说法。”(参见any $^{4}$ )
