in和into都表示移动方向或到达目的地。但不知下面句子在意义上有无区别。
(a) Don't run in the school.
(b) Don't run into the school.
根据 R. Quirk 等人的解释,这两句话的基本意义相同,但是说话人的立脚点不同。句 (a) 的说话人在学校内 (inside the building), 句 (b) 的说话人在学校外面 (outside the building)。翻译时应把这种差异表达出来:
(a)不要跑到学校里来。(或:别在校内跑。)
(b)不要跑到学校里去。
“他跳入水中。
He jumped in the water. (误)
He jumped into the water. (正)"(《大学英语疑难精解》, 华东理工大学出版社, p.286)该书所提出的句子 He jumped in the water. 果真是错误的吗?
介词 in 除了表示处所之外, 还可以表示移动方向, 与 into 同义。因此, 上面所判定的误句, 实际上是正确的。请看下面的例证:
He put his hand in the water. (OELD) 他把一只手伸进水里。
The frog jumped in(into) the river. 青蛙跳到河里去了。
Throw it in the fire. (ALD) 把它扔到火里去。
Go and jump in the river. (PEU) 去, 跳到河里去。
He fell in the water. (Evans) 他掉进水里去了。
I put my key in the lock. (CCEU) 我把钥匙插入锁中了。
He ran into the room. (LDCE) 他跑进屋里去了。
He crossed the road and went into the darkness. 他穿过马路,进入黑夜之中。
但是, into 不能与 here, there 搭配, 此时, 应当用 in:
Our officers went in there expecting to find stolen videos. 我们的警官走进那里,指望找到被偷的录相机。
