born/borne

bear 过去分词的正常形式是 borne.

The woman has borne 5 children. 这个女人生了 5 个孩子。

但是,当用于被动结构时,则采用 born 这一形式:

1. He was born in 1805. 他出生于1805年。

2. No man is born wise. (Prov) 人并不是生来就聪明的。

3. Some people believe that crime is born of poverty. 有些人认为犯罪产生于贫穷。

但是,当后面跟有 by-phrase 的时候,仍用 borne 这个形式:

He was borne by Eve. 他是伊夫生的。

此外, born 还可用作定语:

1. She is a born orator. 她是个天生的演说家。

2. I was a born communist without knowing it. (Shaw) 我是个天生的共产主义者, 而我自己却不知道。
