“在营业中”用 be open，“停止营业”理所当然地应当用 be close，因为 open 和 close 都是形容词，互相对应。我的看法对不对？

应当搞清楚, close 用作形容词时, 作“靠近的”或“亲密的”解, 而不作“关闭的”解, 因而, 它不是形容词 open 的反义词。The shop is close. 是“商店(离这儿)很近。”的意思。

Their house is quite close; we usually walk there. 他们的房子离这儿很近,我们常常步行去那里。
My sister and I are very close. 我和我姐是很亲密的。

用作动词的 close 作“关上”“使关上”解,这时它是动词 open 的反义词。

The banks close at 4:30 p.m. 银行下午4点30分关门。
What time do you close? 你们几点钟关门?
They close the store at 5:30. 他们在 5:30 闭店。

closed 是个形容词, 可以看作是形容词 open 的反义词:

The shops are closed on Sundays. 商店星期日都不开门。

我应用上面的观点去区分 close 与 closely 常常不能奏效。这是怎么回事呢？

用作副词的 close 与副词 closely 的区别主要反映在词义上(它们不同义!),而与被修饰词的词性并无多大关系。要知道,副词 close 也常常修饰动词:

The sound came closer and closer. (EDFS) 声音越来越近。
Stay close together. (CGEL) 紧靠在一起。

由此可见，根据所修饰词的词性是无法把 close 与 closely 区分开来的。而根据它们词义的不同却可以把它们区分开来。例如，该书上的例句 Someone follows close behind me. 之所以使用 close，就是因为它表示“空间上的接近”或“时间上的接近”，而 closely 则往往表示“密切”“紧密地”（抽象意义上的接近）、“仔细地”。

下列各例中的 close 与 closely,由于词义不同,是不能互换的:

Someone was standing too close and I knocked into him and fell over onto my shoulder.
